Last stop in the barbershop

Geneva’s Shear Perfection, a Northeast Portland barbershop once considered the cornerstone of the city’s Black community, closed its doors in August 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. On their final clear-out day, owner Paul Knauls Sr. and manager Paul Knauls Jr. spent some time reminiscing about the 30 years' worth of memories they shared with their community. Father and son also looked to the future and discussed the shop's legacy amidst the city’s wave of gentrification—by ensuring the building they leave behind remains Black-owned for Black businesses.
